An edgy depressed author takes a a trip to the depressing Pacific Northwest to vacation with his wife. She gets kidnapped and he’s the prime suspect.
I really only started playing this one as it is considered “mandatory” to play before Alan Wake 2. This one has been on my backlog for a while and am working my way up to it.
The premise itself is dated as hell and the acting is a bit over the top goofy and overdramatic. It did keep me engaged and itching to see what happened next. The best character is the scared, but man of action Barry Wheeler.
I was a bit wary to get into this game, I had read online that the gameplay was dated and slow, especially his movement speed and stamina of an 80 year old. I played the game on normal and the gameplay to me was pretty fun. I did stockpile and search every nook in this game to be fully loaded. Once I realized your gear doesn’t transfer over to the next chapters I was liberally flash bombing and flaring the shadows. It was fun to play at a pace of an hour and a half per chapter.
This gameplay is simple but good enough to get you through. The settings changing per chapter was enough to not keep the bland dark forest aesthetic from dropping it. I would really only recommend it if you had the intention to play Alan Wake 2, as a game on it’s own, nothing really shines.
This game has me saying “Alice” in his accent for a while though so maybe that’s something.
